Abstract landscapes, completed in watermedia, are the subject of my current series of work. The paintings reflect the raw essence of the landscape - land that is subtle, powerful, and untouched by mankind's presence. Paint is applied on synthetic paper or gessoed board in such a way as to mimic the abstract patterns and texture of dry, desolate deserts, in parched plains and in vast, frozen terrain. Unexpected 'accidents' happen during the painting process and I follow the direction in which the work leads, always striving for a sense of mood or mystery. I find a quiet, subdued beauty in what others may view as bleak and barren land. "It doesn't have to be beautiful to be true, but if it's true, it's beautiful."
